Congressional Reform Act of 2011

1. Term Limits. 12 years only, one of the possible options below..

A. Two Six-year Senate terms
B. Six Two-year House terms
C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

2. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 10-1-11

The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S. ) to receive the message. Maybe it is time..

Battle: Los Angeles

If you know me, then you know that sci-fi flicks are not really my cup of tea. I’m more of an indie, rom-com, drama, thriller (sometimes even angsty vamp movies haha) kinda gal… I don’t dig the aliens-take-over-the-world-but-have-to-beat-out-predators-too(or two)-while-realizing-that-humans-can-fight-back-with-their-nukes-and-f16’s movies. Totally not my thing - but, alas - it is TOTALLY my boyfriend’s thing. John is ALL ABOUT the sci-fi films! So is it really a surprise that we went to see the new film, “Battle: Los Angeles” the day that it came out? Nope.
(In my defense, I did make a valiant effort to convince him to watch “Red Riding Hood” instead, but he won me over with a cupcake :( no fair.)

Imagine my surprise when the lights turned on and John says to me “we should have watched “Red Riding Hood.” (!!) Normally, I would have said “I told you so!” but I couldn’t, because I actually GENUINELY enjoyed “Battle: LA” waaaaay more than I thought I would! For an aliens-vs-humans kind of movie, I thought it was really well-written. Given: the dialogue was awkward sometimes, the jerky first-person camera scenes gave me a headache, and the acting could have been a bit better… Not to mention, this movie is also HIGHLY reminiscent of “Black Hawk Down”, “Independence Day”, “Saving Private Ryan”, “Skyline” (which is one movie I ABSOLUTELY HATED), and probably some other war and alien films I have no interest in seeing… But at the end of the film, as the credits rolled and the lights came on, I realized what I enjoyed the most about this film was that it didn’t revolve solely around the action, the fighter jets, the tough-guy marines, and the oh-so scary aliens. Its redeeming quality was that this was an action film with serious character development. Obviously, you can’t really fit an ongoing epic battle of humans vs invading extraterrestrials and ample character development in two and a half hours, but I think the filmmakers did a damn good job with what they had.

John thinks that I only liked this movie so much since I went in with absolutely no expectations. Honestly, I thought it was going to suck monkey balls. So I guess it could only have gone up from there. But I was also happy to see Jim Parrack from True Blood and Noel Fisher from Shameless on the big screen, since those are two of my absolute FAAAAVORITE shows :) Aaron Eckhart was none too impressive, but he wasn’t horrible either… I think he makes a better district attorney than a staff sergeant. And um, hello? Did anyone else know that Ne-Yo was going to be in an alien film?!

Anyway, I guess the point is that I learned a lesson… Not all sci-fi/action flicks suck. Some are kinda good. :)

Whether you are American, Italian, Egyptian, or Japanese… we are all citizens of humanity. To be a citizen of humanity, you don’t have to pledge your allegiance to a color-specific flag, eat a certain kind of food, or speak a particular language. Being a citizen of humanity simply means that you have flesh that wounds and heals like my flesh does and emotions that can be hurt but rebound like my feelings do. Being a citizen of humanity also gives you inherent rights - like the right to life, liberty, and security of person; as well as the right to freedom of thought, opinion, and expression… And these are called HUMAN RIGHTS, because everyone who is HUMAN is entitled to them. They’re not rights given to you because of your skin color, or because of the God you believe in, or even because you have a penis. These are your fundamental rights just for being a citizen of humanity.

And as citizens of humanity, I believe that we have a responsibility to each other. Our Japanese counterparts have lost so much in the recent earthquake and tsunami: their houses, their homes, their businesses… and even more tragically, they’ve lost their loved ones. It’s estimated that 10,000 people are currently missing, while there are at least 4,000 who have already died. I can’t imagine the devastation and absolute heartbreak that these people must be feeling… So the only thing that I can do is help, even if it’s just a little bit.

I’m working my usual shift tonight at Jitlada, and will be working one more tomorrow night as well. I pledge to donate 50% of all my tips from both shifts to the American Red Cross through http://citizeneffect.org/projects/japan-earthquake-relief-fund. The reason I am using this vehicle for contribution is because Eric Schmidt, the CEO and Chairman of Google, has pledged to match up to $100,000 in donations. The great thing about using a site with a matching donor is that you can make twice the impact. Your $5 is now $10, $25 is $50, and $50 is $100. That’s pretty amazing, right?

I encourage you all to donate to the Red Cross through Citizen Effect so that your money will be working double time for you. Instead of buying two venti caramel mocchiatos from Starbucks, give $10 to help your fellow citizens of humanity in need.
